James 2:1

MY BRETHREN, pay no servile regard to people [show no prejudice, no partiality]. Do not [attempt to] hold and practice the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ [the Lord] of glory [together with snobbery]!
                          - James 2:1 (Amplified Bible)

According to the Oxford dictionary, the word 'servile' means '' or 'of or characteristic of a slave or slaves'. So, James here is telling us to pay no attention to people where you have to please them to the point where you behave or acquire the characteristics of a slave. In simpler words, don't be partial towards anyone. Don't be a doormat to the rich, nor reject those that are poor. The Lord never was nor is partial. He loves everyone and is no respecter of persons.

The current world system promotes gradations in the society - be it that of caste, financial status, power, gender etc. When we come across a rich man, we tend to honour him with the best refreshments of the house, providing him with the best food, talking with him in the most polished manner and so on and so forth. But the same thing, if a poor man rings the doorbell, how do we treat him? With a frown on our lips, dejection written all over our faces, and if I know this right, a couple of harsh words flowing out of our mouths "greeting him". Why? Coz he is not well dressed or smells a bit? And why is that? Isn't that a part of our common sense? He looks unkempt coz he doesnt have the money to buy decent clothes, smells coz he doesnt have a place to shower in. Ok, if we are unwilling to help but why the change of behaviour?

The Bible tells us that we must not be respecter of persons. We are also asked not to hold neither practice our faith like snobs do..where we gloat and patronize and seek attention from those that are of a higher status and ignore and reject those of a lower social status. That would not be acting in faith, but acting in our carnal nature where we heed to our selfish desires and motives. That would not glorify God but our own carnal nature.

Thus remember to check the attitude of your heart..and ask yourself, "Did I think less or more of someone in a partial way?" Remember, that doesnt glorify God. Repent for the way you have treated, even thought of someone in a partial way and receive His forgiveness. Practice your faith loving all.

                                                                                                                   Have a blessed day!
